Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki have publicly urged Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to take a more active role in driving development projects in the Mt. Kenya region.
Their call comes after Kindiki, who took over the Deputy President position from Rigathi Gachagua, has yet to visit Nyeri and engage with the local community.
Governor Kahiga expressed concern over Kindiki's lack of presence in Nyeri, asking why the Deputy President has not visited since assuming office.
Kahiga questioned how Kindiki could claim to be uniting the country when he has not even united his own region.
The Nyeri governor speculated that there may be political pressure or threats behind Kindiki's absence, possibly warning him against visiting the area for fear of facing impeachment proceedings.
Governor Njuki echoed similar sentiments, noting that while the region now holds the Deputy President’s seat, that political position alone does not guarantee development for the people of Mt. Kenya East.
He emphasized that the region deserves more than just political representation; it needs development projects that directly benefit its people and improve their livelihoods.
This week, Kindiki addressed a series of rallies in Embu County, where he was accompanied by leaders from his home region of Mt. Kenya.
In his speeches, Kindiki explained that the focus of the meetings was not on political issues, but rather on pressing development concerns.
He pointed out that it would be irresponsible to use such platforms for politics when the region faces many other important challenges.
Kindiki also reassured the public that when the time comes, he would launch an aggressive campaign to support President William Ruto's re-election bid.
He emphasized that no region in Kenya would be left behind, assuring that every Kenyan citizen, regardless of their location, has the right to access government services and development opportunities.
