On the final day of his developmental tour in Western Kenya, President William Ruto didn't hold back in his ongoing criticism of his former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.
The two leaders, once close political allies, have recently had a strained relationship, and Ruto’s remarks in Bungoma and Busia counties further highlighted their growing rift.
Ruto spoke bluntly about why he had to let go of Gachagua as his deputy, despite the promises they made together during the election.
“He doesn’t understand anything about the programs of the Republic of Kenya.
He doesn’t understand anything about the UHC, he has no clue about housing, he has no clue about agriculture, he has no clue about our young people,” Ruto said, making it clear that Gachagua was not in sync with the government's development agenda.
The tension between the two intensified after Gachagua took to TikTok, criticizing Ruto’s administration for failing to deliver substantial results over two years in power.
Gachagua claimed that Kenyans had seen little benefit from the current government’s promises.
In response, President Ruto didn’t hold back, saying, “Alafu anasimama pale ati anataka kutupea lecture.
Essentially, Ruto accused Gachagua of spreading division and unhelpful criticism without offering any real solutions for Kenya’s problems.
Ruto's statement focused on unity and his mission to ensure no region or community would be left out of Kenya’s development.
“There is no community in Kenya that is going to be isolated for whatever reason. There is no region in Kenya that is not going to partake of the development of our nation,” Ruto asserted.
Furthermore, President Ruto called on his critics to focus on finding solutions, rather than constantly attacking the government.
“I will not be distracted, I will not be dissuaded and I will not be blackmailed and nobody is going to stand in the way,” Ruto said, reinforcing his commitment to the nation’s progress.
