Billy Jiveti, a Senior Research Scientist based in the USA, recently marked his 40th birthday in an unforgettable way.
The Kenyan man from Mahanga, Vihiga County, traveled back home and reunited with his former nanny, Robai, who had taken care of him when he was a baby.
The reunion was a heartfelt moment for both, as they had not seen each other for four decades.
Speaking about the emotional experience on Facebook, Billy shared how special this birthday was.
"I’ve had some amazing birthday celebrations before, but this one was truly extraordinary," he said.
"I got to celebrate with Robai, my nanny, whom I hadn’t seen in over 40 years. She left our home when I was a toddler, but she never left my mind."
Billy revealed that Robai had no idea he was back in Kenya.
"She knew I was in the diaspora and was visiting my mum, Rose," Billy explained.
"The surprise came when they told her to take a picture that was meant to be sent to me.
That’s when I appeared, and we hugged, filled with joy and excitement."
The reunion also involved a special photo recreation.
Forty years ago, a picture was taken with Robai holding baby Billy, his mother Rose, and other family members outside their grass-thatched family home.
During this visit, they recreated the photo, bringing back cherished memories for everyone.
Billy's sister, Doreen Amuhonda, shared the story of how she convinced their parents to name Billy after a Safari Rally driver who won the championship the year he was born.
The touching celebration also included family and friends who helped make the day even more special.
Billy expressed his gratitude, particularly to Barbra Hope, who played a key role in locating Robai and bringing her to Mahanga.
In a final message, Billy said, "It took a lot of planning and support from family and friends, but it was worth it.
A huge thank you to everyone who made this reunion possible."
Many Kenyans reacted with warm messages of support and admiration.
One commenter said, "Why am I tearing up? Thanks for honoring Robai! This is what humanity is all about! Bless your heart, Billy!"
