Ibrahim was shot and killed by police officers on the morning of Tuesday, January 7, 2025, as he was playing with friends near his grandmother’s house.
Ibrahim’s mother tearfully shared the heartbreaking story. She said her son had left her home after having breakfast that morning, heading out to join his friends.
However, shortly after he left, she heard the sound of gunshots. When she rushed outside to find out what had happened, she was shocked to discover her son’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
The police have claimed that they were responding to a distress call from the area regarding a robbery. According to the police, Ibrahim was allegedly part of a group of young people involved in stealing from residents.
When confronted by the officers, the suspects reportedly attacked the police with machetes, prompting them to fire shots.
Police also stated that Ibrahim was among three juveniles seen robbing people in the area, and that two others managed to escape the scene.
Likoni Sub-county Police Commander Geoffrey Ruheni confirmed the police version of events. He explained that the officers had been acting in self-defense after being confronted by the suspects with weapons.
Ruheni added that during the confrontation, the police shot in the air to disperse the robbers. Unfortunately, during the altercation, Ibrahim was fatally shot.
The shooting has raised concerns in the community, with many questioning whether the officers’ response was justified.
Ibrahim’s mother, who had been inside her house when the gunshots were heard, is devastated by the loss of her son.
She expressed her shock and disbelief over the incident, noting that her son had been playing peacefully with his friends, unaware of the danger that was to come.
“I heard a gunshot and ran outside to see what was happening. When I came out, I found my son lying in a pool of blood. The police came and took his body,” she recalled, still in deep sorrow.
The family and residents of the area have called for a thorough investigation into the incident to determine whether the use of force by the police was appropriate.
The police have defended their actions, but the family’s grief remains, and they continue to demand answers for the loss of a young life.
This tragic event has also sparked a broader conversation about police conduct, particularly when it comes to the use of force in situations involving young people.
