Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has announced significant changes in her administration aimed at improving service delivery in the county.
On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, she nominated new officials and reassigned others to different departments to enhance efficiency and performance.
The governor appointed Elijah Ogodo Munga as the new County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Youths, Sports, Talent Development, Gender Inclusivity, Cultural Heritage, and Social Services.
His appointment is expected to bring new energy and leadership to the department.
Alongside Munga, Governor Wanga nominated Elijah Otineo Nyiero as the Chief Officer for Youths and Sports and Stephen Okeyo as the Chief Officer for Vocational Training.
The nominees will undergo vetting by the Homa Bay County Assembly before their appointments are confirmed.
If approved, Munga will take over from Sarah Malit, who has been reassigned to lead the Fisheries department.
The changes, according to Governor Wanga, aim to fill vacant positions and ensure optimal performance in the county government.
Governor Wanga’s reshuffle also saw the transfer of several senior officials to new roles within the county administration.
Roseline Omollo, who was previously in charge of Health, has swapped positions with Mercy Osewe, who was overseeing Governance and Devolution.
Other notable changes include the transfer of Joash Aloo from the Water department to head Trade, Investments, Industrialization, Tourism, and Marketing.
Meanwhile, John Agili, formerly handling Fisheries, Mining, and Digital Economy, will now oversee Water, Sanitation, Environment, Energy, Forestry, and Climate Change.
Governor Wanga assured residents that the changes take effect immediately and instructed the county secretary to oversee a smooth transition.
She emphasized that the reshuffle is meant to ensure better service delivery to the people of Homa Bay.
November 2024, the county government provided financial grants to boda boda Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) as a way of supporting young people in the sector.
The governor expressed gratitude to the boda boda riders for their support during her campaign and encouraged them to utilize the funds wisely to grow their businesses and uplift others.
