A group of Meru elders, members of the influential Njuri Ncheke, has called on Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi to settle his differences with the government in private.
This appeal comes after Muturi criticized President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of being responsible for the increase in abductions of young people across the country.
In a statement made public on Tuesday, the elders expressed their disappointment in Muturi’s remarks, which they considered contradictory.
They emphasized that Muturi, as a member of the current government, should not air his grievances in public but should instead resolve any issues directly with President Ruto and his Deputy, Kithure Kindiki.
The elders pointed out that Muturi, being well-connected, had the ability to speak to the president and work out any concerns he may have.
“You cannot destroy a house you live in,” the elders said. “You should go back to the president, speak with him, and address the issue together.
If there is any problem, work it out because you are one of the few people who can reach the president.”
They also reminded Muturi of his previous statements, where he claimed to have spoken with the president in the past, urging him to continue with those conversations instead of causing unnecessary tension.
The call from the elders follows Muturi's recent suggestion for the creation of a commission to investigate the rising cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.
He emphasized that such a commission should be multi-sectoral and focus on finding long-term solutions to these troubling issues.
Muturi’s statements have drawn mixed reactions, with some supporting his call for accountability and others criticizing his public approach.
Despite these concerns, the Meru elders have made it clear that their community wants to continue playing an active role in the government and its progress.
They believe that dialogue, unity, and working together are key to resolving any issues and moving forward as a nation.
They concluded by urging Muturi to return to his work, resolve his issues quietly, and focus on serving the public.
