In Embu County on Saturday, February 1, 2025, Mogotio MP Ruben Kiborek found himself at the center of controversy after attacking Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi.
Kiborek’s remarks were aimed at Muturi’s recent criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government, particularly regarding the growing issue of abductions and extrajudicial killings in the country.
The criticism sparked heated reactions from residents who attended the Embu County Boda Boda Summit, where Kiborek was speaking.
Muturi has been outspoken in his condemnation of the state’s handling of security issues.
Recently, he has called for an inquiry into the rising cases of abductions, which he believes implicate state law enforcement agencies.
His stance became even more prominent after the discovery of two abducted men, Justus Mutumwa and Martin Mwau, whose bodies were found after weeks of being missing.
Muturi, a former Speaker of the National Assembly, has demanded accountability and swift action from the government to address the security lapses that have left citizens fearing for their safety.
However, Kiborek, a first-time member of Parliament, took issue with Muturi’s criticism.
He accused the CS of hypocrisy, claiming that when Muturi served as Speaker during the 11th and 12th parliaments, he did not raise concerns about similar atrocities happening at the time.
According to Kiborek, Muturi lacked the moral standing to now speak out against the government on security matters, given his silence on the issue in the past.
Kiborek’s comments did not sit well with the audience, leading to a rowdy reaction during his speech.
The crowd began heckling him, and it seemed the MP attempted to shift the focus of his speech to the broader theme of national unity in an effort to calm the situation.
Despite the disruption, Kiborek’s criticism of Muturi remained a central point of his address.
Muturi’s recent remarks, including his demand for a commission of inquiry into the abductions, have sparked a broader debate about the state of security in Kenya.
His call for accountability from the government contrasts sharply with Kiborek’s defense of the current administration.
The clash between the two leaders reflects the tensions within the ruling coalition over how to address the country’s security challenges.
