A family in Kirinyaga County is grieving the loss of their 26-year-old daughter, Risper Ng’endo, who was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend.
Risper was found dead in Kajiado County, four days after she left her home to visit the man she had been in a long-term relationship with.
The family is now calling for justice, asking the police to arrest the boyfriend they believe is responsible for her death.
Risper left her home in Kirima village on Saturday, February 1, 2025, to visit her boyfriend in Nairobi.
Her sister, Caroline Wandia, recalled that Risper had taken a matatu from the Kerugoya stage at around 4 p.m.
After traveling for several hours, Risper arrived at her boyfriend’s place at around 8 p.m. Caroline was in constant communication with her sister until that time, but after that, Risper’s phone went off, and she was unable to reach her. That was the last time they heard from her.
The family did not think anything was wrong until they received a disturbing phone call from the boyfriend.
He informed them that Risper was dead, but his call was followed by his sudden disappearance.
The family was in shock, unable to believe that the person they trusted and had expected to become a part of their family could be responsible for such a horrific act.
Caroline said that the family had known the boyfriend for years.
"He had visited our home several times, and my sister had even visited his family in Kericho. We were looking forward to their wedding. We thought they would soon get married," Caroline said tearfully.
The family had been eagerly waiting for the couple to settle down, and they never imagined that their daughter would meet such a tragic fate.
The family was further shocked when they learned that the boyfriend had been lying about his identity.
He had told them that he was a senior officer working for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi, which they had believed.
However, after Risper’s death, they discovered the truth—that he was just a farm worker, or shamba boy, in Kajiado.
The boyfriend had also claimed that he had traveled to America, a story that turned out to be another lie.
Before he disappeared, the suspect reportedly admitted to killing Risper, but he fled before the family could learn more details about what happened.
The family is now left in disbelief, struggling to understand why the boyfriend, whom they trusted, would kill their daughter.
Risper’s father, James Munene, said he is pleading with the police to ensure that the man responsible for his daughter’s death is caught and brought to justice.
"We want justice for Risper," he said. "We trusted him, and we are heartbroken that he could do this to our daughter."
Risper’s tragic death has left her family devastated. They are still searching for answers and hoping that the police will quickly find the suspect and hold him accountable for his actions.
The family’s pain is compounded by the fact that they had been looking forward to celebrating their daughter’s marriage, only to lose her in such a heartbreaking way.
