A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Minyere village, Ndhiwa, Homabay County, where a 7-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being poisoned by her father.
The young girl, identified as Grashines Lovely Odongo, was a Grade Two pupil at Minyere Comprehensive School.
Her lifeless body was discovered by a relative on Tuesday morning, covered in clothes at their home.
According to reports, the girl had been living with her father and sibling after her parents separated three months ago.
On Monday evening, she was last seen with her father, and by the following morning, she was found dead under disturbing circumstances.
The area assistant chief, Javana Abuto, revealed that the girl's younger sibling had informed authorities about the events leading to the tragic death.
It was reported that the father mixed petrol with an unknown chemical and tricked his daughter into drinking it, pretending it was soda.
This led to her immediate collapse and unconsciousness. The girl was later poisoned by her father in this cruel manner, which resulted in her tragic passing.
A bottle of petrol was discovered next to the girl's body, further confirming the suspicion of poisoning.
Authorities, including Ndhiwa Sub-County Police Commander John Losia, confirmed that foam was found oozing from the girl's mouth after the incident, a clear indication of poisoning.
Following the discovery, the police launched a manhunt for the father, who fled the scene after the death of his daughter.
The young girl’s body has been transported to Manyatta Kobodo Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The authorities are working diligently to find the father, who remains on the run, and ensure justice for the innocent child who suffered an untimely and tragic end.
This shocking incident highlights the need for greater awareness and intervention in family conflicts to prevent such heartbreaking acts of violence.
