For Raymond Makumi Kiiru and Anne Ng’endo, this year’s Valentine’s Day was more than just a celebration of love it was the day they officially became husband and wife.
After spending 30 years together, the couple exchanged their vows in a colorful church wedding at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Kamwangi Catholic Church in Gatundu North.
The ceremony was attended by family and friends who came in large numbers to witness their union.
As many Kenyans marked Valentine’s Day with gifts and special moments, Makumi and Ng’endo took a bigger step by solemnizing their relationship before God and their loved ones.
Speaking after the wedding, Makumi expressed gratitude for the journey they have shared.
He acknowledged that their 30 years together had challenges, but love, trust, and mutual respect kept them strong.
"The journey has not been easy, but we have always worked together to find solutions.
Love grows stronger when two people understand and support each other," Makumi said.
The couple advised young people to take their time in relationships and avoid rushing into decisions that could lead to problems in their families.
They emphasized that a successful marriage requires love, trust, patience, commitment, and friendship.
Makumi also addressed the common belief that Kenyan men are not romantic, calling it a misleading generalization.
He said romance depends on individuals, not nationalities. Their wedding, held on Valentine’s Day, was proof that Kenyan men also express love in meaningful ways.
On her part, Ng’endo was overwhelmed with joy and described the wedding as a special gift from her husband.
She praised Makumi for making their love official and promised to continue loving him deeply.
"This is a special moment for me. Today, my husband has shown me that we were truly meant to be.
I will continue to love him more and cherish our journey together," Ng’endo said.
Mwaura Waithera, an elder who attended the ceremony, encouraged men to play active roles in their families.
He urged them to nurture love, care for their loved ones, and make thoughtful decisions for a better future.
"Love is a powerful bond that keeps families united. Men should rise to the occasion and ensure their families remain strong," Waithera advised.
