Police are searching for 27-year-old Denis Kipkirui Kemei, who is accused of killing his girlfriend, Risper Ngendo Munene, before calling the police to report the crime.
According to authorities, the incident happened on February 3, 2025, at a house where Kemei worked as a caretaker in Olooltepes sub-location, Oloosirkon location, Isinya sub-county.
Investigations indicate that Risper had traveled to visit Kemei when the tragic event occurred.
After allegedly committing the crime, Kemei called Isinya Police Station and informed officers about the murder before vanishing.
Police officers visited the house on February 8 and found the woman’s lifeless body lying on a bed, covered with a blanket.
Reports indicate that her body had black marks on the limbs and neck, suggesting she was strangled. The body had also started decomposing.
The remains were taken to Nairobi Funeral Home (City Mortuary) for a postmortem examination as detectives continue investigating the motive behind the killing.
This tragic case adds to the growing number of femicide incidents in Kenya.
Recently, in Kiambaa, Kiambu County, residents were left shocked after the body of 28-year-old Jackline Nyambura Mungai was found along Ruaka-Banana Road on January 4, 2025.
Her body was discovered partially dressed, and authorities are still investigating the cause of her death.
Concern over such killings has prompted government intervention.
On January 10, 2025, President William Ruto established a 42-member task force to investigate cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide.
The task force, led by former Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Barasa, will assess the rising incidents and propose solutions.
It will operate under the Ministry of Interior and indirectly report to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
Kenyans are calling for justice for Risper and other victims of GBV.
Many are urging the government to take stronger action to curb femicide and protect women. Activists argue that if the issue is not addressed urgently, more lives will be lost.
Meanwhile, police are intensifying efforts to find Kemei and are appealing to the public to provide any information about his whereabouts.
