A family in Kamachumo village, Kericho County, is celebrating after their daughter, Cynthia Chepkoech, secured admission to Southampton Solent University in the United Kingdom.
However, their joy is mixed with concern as they struggle to raise the required KSh 2.8 million for her studies before May 2025.
Her father, Stanley Kimutai Cheruiyot, expressed his happiness but also shared his worries about funding her education.
"This is a great opportunity for my daughter. She has worked hard, and we are proud of her.
But the financial burden is heavy, and we need help," he said.
Cynthia, 29, has been offered a chance to pursue a master’s degree in Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science.
She completed her undergraduate studies in 2019 and has since been working at a company in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
However, her five-year work contract is ending this year, making this the perfect time for her to continue her education.
"She has always dreamed of advancing her studies, and now that she has this opportunity, we do not want her to miss out because of finances," her father added.
With just a few months left before the academic year begins, the family is doing everything possible to raise the required amount.
They have reached out to friends, the local church, and well-wishers for support.
"Money is the biggest challenge right now. I am retiring soon, and I have been the breadwinner for my family.
I have educated my children all through, but this time, we need help," Cheruiyot explained.
To gather funds, the family has organized a fundraising event on Sunday, March 9, and they are appealing to well-wishers to contribute.
Cheruiyot is hopeful that their efforts will bear fruit, allowing his daughter to travel and pursue her dreams.
"Every blessing comes with its burden. This opportunity is rare, and we would be heartbroken if she misses it. We appeal to anyone who can help to come forward," he pleaded.
Those willing to support Cynthia’s education can reach out to her father on 0724533981.
