Brenda Wa TikTok, a popular Kenyan content creator, recently found himself at the center of a controversy after his viral videos led some people to believe he was gay.
Known for his ability to convincingly mimic a woman's voice, the entertainer, whose real name is Ones Rugut, has been pranking men on social media with his content.
However, after some men began making assumptions about his sexuality, he was forced to address the rumors publicly.
In one of his most viral videos, Rugut calls a man while pretending to be a woman.
During the call, he asks for financial help, saying, “I miss you so much,” and reminds the man of a previous money transfer.
“You sent me KSh 100. When will you send me more?” he asks in a playful manner.
The man, believing he’s talking to a woman, agrees to send more money and even promises to visit at the end of the month.
Rugut’s remarkable talent for imitating a woman's voice has earned him a massive following on TikTok.
However, this same skill led some viewers to wrongly assume that he might not be straight.
In the wake of these rumors, he recently spoke out, making it clear that he is indeed straight and has a girlfriend.
“I’m not gay. I have someone. This is just content,” he said in an interview with SPM Buzz on February 1, 2025.
Rugut further clarified that while he is not married, he is in a committed relationship.
He shared, “Niko na mtu” (I have someone), strongly denying any assumptions about his sexuality.
Despite his statement, some people still found it hard to believe him, with others commenting on his voice, comparing it to that of a famous social media personality.
This situation is not unique to Brenda Wa TikTok. Prince Newton, a commercial model, also recently had to clarify his sexuality after some men in the LGBTQ community made advances toward him.
Like Brenda, he warned anyone who approached him with inappropriate messages that he would not hesitate to expose them.
