Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has demanded the resignation of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.
He blames them for Raila Odinga’s defeat in the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson election.
Speaking on Saturday, February 15, Amisi accused the two officials of misleading Raila and the country about Kenya’s chances of winning.
According to him, the NIS failed in its duty to provide accurate intelligence on the level of support Raila had across Africa.
“The purpose of NIS is to provide intelligence that helps Kenya achieve its goals and protect its interests.
In this AUC election, Noordin Haji failed miserably.
Musalia Mudavadi and Haji should have resigned by now for misleading Raila and embarrassing Baba with a loss he did not deserve,” Amisi stated.
The election took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the Nelson Mandela Hall.
Raila Odinga competed against Djibouti’s Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and Madagascar’s Richard Randiamandrato.
In the first round of voting, Raila led with 20 votes, while Youssouf got 18, and Randiamandrato received 10.
However, as the rounds continued, Raila started losing ground.
By the third round, the Djibouti candidate had taken the lead with 23 votes, against Raila’s 20. Madagascar’s candidate was eliminated.
The fourth and fifth rounds saw Mahmoud increase his lead, eventually reaching 26 votes against Raila’s 21.
In the sixth round, Raila secured 22 votes, but Mahmoud maintained 26. Raila was eliminated at this stage. In the final seventh round, Mahmoud won with 33 votes.
After the election, Raila accepted the results and congratulated Mahmoud.
“I concede defeat, and I want us to use this as an example of strengthening democracy in Africa.
I wish Mahamoud Ali Youssouf all the best and success in his leadership,” Raila said.
Many ODM leaders have reacted strongly to Raila’s loss, blaming the government for poor planning.
Some even suggested that Kenya should withdraw from the African Union.
Others criticized celebrations in some parts of Kenya, where people cheered Raila’s defeat.
