A devastating road accident on the Wundanyi-Mwatate road in Taita Taveta on February 1, 2025, has left four people dead, including three high school students from Dr. Aggrey Boys' High School.
The students had been sent home earlier that day after a fire broke out in one of the school's dormitories for the second time within the week.
The accident occurred when the minibus the students were traveling in experienced brake failure and crashed into a dangerous bend near Josa.
The crash was severe, and locals quickly gathered at the scene to try and rescue those trapped inside the vehicle.
Photos from the scene show the magnitude of the disaster, with bystanders appearing shocked at the sight.
The three students, who had left school with no idea of the tragedy ahead, were among the fatalities.
The wife of the minibus driver was also killed in the crash.
Emergency teams, including firefighters and a rescue team, arrived swiftly at the scene to assist with extricating the injured and deceased.
The students' school had sent them home due to the fire, which had broken out earlier in the week.

Following the crash, the survivors were rushed to Moi Referral Hospital and St. Joseph's Mission Hospital for treatment.
Their conditions have not been fully disclosed, but it is known that they are receiving medical attention after the traumatic event.
This tragic accident comes just hours after another deadly crash in Dongo Kundu, Mombasa, which claimed two lives and left two others seriously injured.
That incident, occurring on the same day, involved a head-on collision between a taxi and a vehicle linked to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
