Busia County is set to be the center of political attention today as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga prepares to make a significant political announcement.
Speaking after consultative meetings with ODM members in Homa Bay and Migori, Odinga confirmed that he had received their endorsement to proceed with his next move.
“I have listened to the leadership of Homa Bay and Migori, and they have given me the go-ahead to make a major announcement in Busia,” Odinga stated.
Odinga’s announcement comes after his unsuccessful attempt to secure the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
Despite the setback, he remains optimistic about his political future.
He thanked those who supported his bid and assured his followers that he is still actively involved in Kenya’s political landscape.
“I want to thank everyone who stood with me during my AUC bid.
The journey does not end here. We must continue to focus on the future of our country,” he said.
Besides his political plans, Odinga expressed concern over several national issues.
He highlighted the increasing cases of abductions in the country and called on the government to act swiftly.
“These abductions should not be happening in our country in this day and age.
This is a major threat to our security and development,” he remarked.
Odinga also addressed the challenges surrounding the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which replaced the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).
He criticized the new system, stating that it had caused suffering among Kenyans.
“Many patients are struggling because of SHIF. The government says it is working, but in reality, it is not.
We need urgent reforms to ensure that all Kenyans have access to proper healthcare,” he emphasized.
As ODM marks its 20th anniversary in Busia today, Kenyans eagerly await Odinga’s announcement.
Many believe that this could be a turning point in his political career.
