Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to launch his own political party in May 2025.
This move comes months after his impeachment in October 2024, marking a new chapter in his political journey.
Gachagua aims to rally support, especially from the youth, as he prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking about his plans, Gachagua said, "Kenya needs a fresh political direction, and I am ready to lead this change.
We must bring everyone on board, especially young people who have shown great interest in governance."
Gachagua has praised Generation Z for their boldness in demanding better governance.
He believes that their involvement in politics will be a game-changer in the next elections.
"I have seen the power of the youth. They are not afraid to speak out, and that is what Kenya needs.
I encourage them to register as voters and take an active role in shaping the future of this country," he said.
His call to action aligns with the recent wave of youth activism in Kenya, where young people have been vocal about corruption, unemployment, and government policies.
By forming his own party, Gachagua hopes to give them a political platform to express their ideas and push for change.
Since his removal from office, Gachagua has been engaging political leaders, especially from the Mount Kenya region, to strengthen his movement.
He believes that a strong alliance will help him challenge President William Ruto’s administration.
"Leadership is about working with like-minded people. I am talking to leaders who believe in a better Kenya, and we will build something strong together," he stated.
This move signals a major shift in Kenya’s political landscape.
Gachagua, once a key ally of Ruto, now positions himself as an opposition force.
Analysts suggest that his new party could divide the Mount Kenya vote, which has been crucial in past elections.
"We are just getting started. Watch this space. Change is coming," he declared.
