Speaking during his development tour in the coastal region on Friday, February 28, 2025, Ruto accused the leaders of focusing too much on him instead of presenting real solutions to the challenges facing Kenyans.
“I saw some people trying to launch a political party yesterday. They spoke for four hours about William Ruto.
I just want to ask, was the party being created for Ruto, or is it called the Ruto party?” the president asked.
Ruto expressed disappointment, saying that instead of discussing economic issues, job creation, and other pressing national matters, the leaders spent most of their time attacking him and planning how to remove him from power in the 2027 elections.
“Their agenda and manifesto are just about Ruto. I want to tell them that I did not send them there to talk about me,” he added.
He urged opposition leaders to focus on policies and development rather than making personal attacks.
Ruto assured Kenyans that his administration had clear plans to improve infrastructure, create jobs, and enhance healthcare services.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who attended the party launch, did not hold back in his criticism of Ruto.
Speaking on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Gachagua accused Ruto of failing to deliver on his promises and worsening the country's economic situation.
“In a record two years, Ruto has destroyed Kenya’s health and education system and made the cost of living unbearable. Nothing is working,” Gachagua said.
He claimed that Ruto had deceived both the elite and ordinary Kenyans, including religious leaders who supported him during the 2022 elections.
“Ever since I was born, I have never seen a liar like Ruto. This guy looks you straight in the eye and lies without hesitation,” he said.
Several prominent politicians attended the PLP launch, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Safina Party leader Jimi Wanjigi, and Mukhisa Kituyi.
The launch came shortly after these leaders announced their intention to work together to prevent Ruto from securing a second term in 2027.
