Belgut Member of Parliament, Nelson Koech, has revealed that President William Ruto plans to dismiss Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, following his public criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government.
Speaking on Citizen TV on February 3, 2025, Koech stated that Muturi's actions would lead to his firing within the next two weeks.
The Belgut MP, a strong ally of President Ruto, said that Muturi had "called for it" by openly challenging the administration.
"I know what is happening politically," Koech said. "Muturi is daring the president.
He has pinched the president's nose, and I can tell you for sure, he is going home. It can even be today."
The tension stems from Muturi's recent comments on the rising cases of abductions and extrajudicial killings in the country.
He publicly criticized the government's handling of the issue, directly calling out President Ruto.
Koech, in response, accused Muturi of using the sensitive issue of abductions to gain political mileage and attention.
"CS Muturi appears to be seeking political mileage from abduction cases," Koech added.
"If he had any morals, he would have resigned instead of continuing to serve in this government."
This comes as some of President Ruto's close allies have demanded Muturi's resignation.
They believe his constant public disagreements with the administration are damaging.
Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, who has been outspoken on the matter, advised Muturi to resign if he wished to criticize the government freely.
“Muturi is out of order,” Duale said during a recent event in Garissa.
“If he wants to speak out against the government, he should step down from his position and criticize us as an outsider.”
However, not everyone agrees with the calls for Muturi’s resignation.
Senator Boni Khalwale came to his defense, arguing that the CS’s anger was a result of his personal trauma the abduction of his son.
Khalwale urged President Ruto to address the broader issue of abductions rather than focusing on Muturi’s criticism.
“Muturi's anger is coming from a deep personal place. His son was abducted.
The president should focus on solving the abduction crisis,” Khalwale stated.
