Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has sent a strong message to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, warning him that his recent political moves will not be enough to remove President William Ruto from power.
Kioni, a close ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, dismissed any possibility of the Jubilee Party forming an alliance with Gachagua, saying their party’s goals have remained the same since 2017.
"We are happy that he is now attacking his former boss, but we knew our direction before 2017 and 2022. He must be careful not to mislead people and create false hopes.
It will take more than making statements in churches to defeat Ruto," Kioni stated.
His remarks come at a time when Gachagua has changed his political stance, openly criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government, despite being part of it.
Kioni pointed out that Jubilee leaders had warned Gachagua earlier about supporting Ruto but he refused to listen.
"We fought Gachagua because of the challenges Kenyans are facing today.
We told him he was selling a bad product to the people of Mount Kenya. He insulted us and never listened," Kioni added.
Gachagua has recently been vocal against the Kenya Kwanza government, demanding accountability and better leadership.
This shift has raised speculation that he might be looking for new political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
In May 2024, while still serving as Deputy President, Gachagua had called for unity in Mount Kenya and even extended an olive branch to Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Our son, Uhuru Kenyatta, should join us so we can be together. Is this too much to ask?
Elections are over, and we should unite as a region. If we do not, we will face tough times ahead," Gachagua said then.
However, it now appears that any hopes of reuniting with Uhuru’s allies are slim.
While Kioni acknowledged Gachagua’s recent attacks on Ruto, he suggested that the DP’s political survival would require more than just words.
In December 2025, Gachagua hinted at forming an alliance with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
"We have chosen to be lifelong friends with the Wiper Party because of the grace Kalonzo has shown. We do not say things we do not mean," he stated.
