Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has expressed confidence in Raila Odinga's chances of winning the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship in the upcoming elections, scheduled for February 5.
Duale, who has been closely following Odinga’s campaign, emphasized that the former Prime Minister has worked hard to secure support across Africa.
Duale spoke candidly about the local political landscape, where some individuals have expressed concern over Odinga's potential exit from national politics.
According to Duale, these critics are motivated by self-interest, fearing the loss of their own political relevance.
"I know there are many people who don’t want Raila to leave local politics," Duale said.
"They always use him as a guinea pig. Without Raila Odinga, there are people whose careers will come to an end."
His words indicate a deep frustration with those who, in his view, rely on Odinga’s political presence to maintain their positions of power.
Duale’s support for Odinga comes at a critical time as the country’s political future seems uncertain with the looming shift in local leadership.
Some have been skeptical of Odinga's focus on the AUC chairmanship, questioning whether his departure from local politics is in the best interest of the country.
However, Duale has a clear stance on this matter, viewing Odinga’s potential role in the African Union as a positive step for both Kenya and the continent at large.
Raila Odinga, a figure synonymous with Kenyan politics, has long been a key player on the national stage.
However, his pursuit of the AUC position marks a significant pivot, suggesting he may be ready for a more continental role.
Duale’s remarks underscore the belief that Odinga’s leadership would not only benefit Kenya but also play a vital part in Africa’s growth.
Duale has urged Kenyans to support Odinga's candidacy for the AUC chairmanship, dismissing the claims of those who believe that his departure would harm local politics.
"Raila has the experience, the vision, and the connections needed to lead the African Union Commission," Duale said confidently.
As the election date nears, all eyes are on Raila Odinga’s bid to take on a new challenge on the African continent.
With Duale's backing and the significant campaign efforts already underway, Odinga’s chances look promising.
