Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that President William Ruto is planning to remove Principal Secretaries (PSs) from the Mt. Kenya region to give positions to Raila Odinga's allies.
Speaking on Kameme FM on Monday, March 17, Gachagua said that Raila demanded more government positions before signing an agreement with Ruto.
According to Gachagua, Raila asked for six Cabinet Secretary (CS) positions and several PS positions.
"For Raila to support the President, he demanded six Cabinet positions, just like we had asked for eight when we joined Ruto. That is how politics works," Gachagua stated.
Gachagua claimed that President Ruto had already started reshuffling PSs and that many leaders from Mt. Kenya would lose their jobs.
"On Friday, Raila and the President spent the whole day with Felix Kosgey planning how to remove and replace PSs.
We had negotiated for 15 PSs, one from each county, and two from Meru, Kiambu, Laikipia, and Nyeri counties," he revealed.
He further stated that Raila was given ten PS positions, and this would force Ruto to fire many of his Mt. Kenya allies.
"William Ruto is planning to chase away our people. When I was DP, I tried to stop him from such things.
That is why he disliked me and called me tribal," Gachagua said.
The former DP expressed disappointment that Mt. Kenya leaders who support Ruto were silent instead of defending their people.
He gave the example of Health CS Deborah Barasa, who received support after reports of her planned removal.
Gachagua said leaders from Mt. Kenya should also fight for their PSs.
"I don't know if we are bewitched or if the money from President Ruto has made our people crazy.
Our PSs are about to be fired, and nobody is speaking up," he lamented.
Gachagua also blamed his successor, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, for not taking action.
The claims by Gachagua come as the government continues making changes in top positions.
