Murega Baichu, the husband of former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, has made an emotional appeal to President William Ruto, expressing his disappointment over the impeachment of his wife.
In a video shared on social media, Baichu claimed that the president was misled by Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) who were against Mwangaza.
"Mr. President, I don’t understand how you could believe what these leaders are saying about my wife.
The MCAs and MPs in Meru have been fighting her from the start, not because she has failed, but because they have personal interests," Baichu lamented.
He questioned why his wife was targeted and what mistake she had made to deserve such treatment.
"Tell me, what crime has she committed? Has she stolen money? Has she failed in her duties? Or does she owe these politicians something?" he asked.
According to Baichu, President Ruto should have taken time to listen to ordinary Meru residents instead of relying on politicians.
"The people of Meru know the truth. If you ask them, they will tell you what is really happening.
The MCAs are not fighting for the people. They are fighting for themselves," he claimed.
Despite his frustrations, Baichu maintained that he had no personal issue with the president or his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
"We have no fight with you, Mr. President. You are our leader, and we respect you.
But we have nowhere else to turn. Only God knows the truth," he said with a tone of resignation.
Following Mwangaza’s removal, her deputy, Isaac Mutuma, was sworn in as the fourth governor of Meru County.
His swearing-in ceremony took place at Mwendantu Grounds, where he was welcomed by cheering politicians and supporters.
Baichu, however, remains hopeful that justice will be served. "We leave everything in God's hands. Time will tell who was right and who was wrong," he concluded.
