A Form Three student from Elburgon D.E.B. Secondary School was shot dead during protests near the Elburgon Police Station in Molo, Nakuru County.
The incident happened as residents demonstrated over the mysterious death of a well-known local mechanic, Geoffrey Ngugi.
Ngugi had been missing since Sunday, March 9, and was later found dead, sparking outrage among the community.
Residents gathered near the police station to demand justice, accusing security officers of failing to protect them.
During the demonstrations, police reportedly opened fire, and one of the bullets struck the student, leading to his tragic death.
Witnesses say the student’s lifeless body lay on the roadside for hours before it was finally taken to the Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
Locals have expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of insecurity in the area and are urging the government to take action.
Residents claim that innocent people in the area have been dying under unclear circumstances.
One local explained that they had caught suspects involved in recent crimes and were in the process of handing them over to the authorities when police intervened and started dispersing the crowd.
“There is no security here. We had caught the suspects responsible for these crimes, but before we could take action, police arrived and scattered us,” one resident said.
The incident has left the student’s family devastated, calling for justice and accountability from the authorities.
This is not the first case of a student allegedly being shot by police.
A few days earlier, a Form Three student in Majengo, Nairobi, was shot dead under controversial circumstances.
Seventeen-year-old Ibrahim Ramadhan was allegedly shot by a police officer after a confrontation between police and youth in the area.
His mother, Khadija Ramadhan, said her son had left home to pray at a local mosque before the tragic event occurred.
She accused the police of using excessive force, claiming that the officer responsible was seen jumping over a wall before opening fire.
Ibrahim was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
His death led to protests in Majengo, where residents burned police houses and a vehicle, demanding justice.
