Siaya County is mourning after a tragic accident at Ramba Boys High School claimed the lives of two students.
The heartbreaking incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, March 22, when a septic tank within the school compound caved in.
According to reports, the two students were standing on top of the septic tank when it suddenly collapsed.
The structure gave way beneath them, causing them to fall inside. Despite efforts to save them, both students lost their lives.
The victims were final-year students preparing for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
Their untimely deaths have sent shockwaves through the school, leaving teachers, students, and parents devastated.
Rarieda Member of Parliament (MP) Otiende Amollo was among the first leaders to express his sadness over the tragedy.
Taking to social media, he shared his grief and called for investigations.
"Another tragedy! Saddened to learn that two young boys at Ramba Boys High School have lost their lives after a septic tank collapsed.
May their young souls rest in peace as we continue investigating the circumstances," he posted.
Many other leaders, parents, and members of the public have also sent their condolences to the bereaved families.
Following the incident, concerns have been raised about the safety of school infrastructure.
Parents and education stakeholders are now demanding a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the collapse.
Many are questioning whether the septic tank was poorly constructed or whether it had weakened over time due to a lack of maintenance.
If negligence is found to be a factor, calls for accountability may follow.
Authorities have urged schools to inspect their infrastructure regularly to prevent such disasters.
Ensuring that septic tanks, buildings, and other facilities meet safety standards is crucial to protecting students and staff.
The loss of two young lives has deeply affected the Ramba Boys High School community.
Fellow students, teachers, and parents are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
The bodies of the deceased students have been taken to the mortuary, as families and friends prepare to lay them to rest.
