A woman in Nairobi has received praise from Kenyans after rescuing a mother who was about to abandon her child on the roadside due to stress and hardship.
Achieng' Otieno was on her way to work when she noticed a group of people surrounding a woman with a small child.
Curious, she went closer to see what was happening.
She found out that the mother had placed her baby on the road and started walking away.
The crowd was upset and shouting at the woman. Some even suggested she should be arrested or punished.
Otieno, however, chose to speak to the woman calmly. She asked her why she wanted to leave the child.
The woman broke down and said she was suffering and did not want her child to suffer as well.
Otieno saw the pain on her face and could tell that the woman was going through a deep emotional struggle.
Instead of judging her, Otieno took her to a nearby food stall and bought her tea and breakfast.
She also gave her KSh 500 and asked the people at the stall to talk to her and keep her company.
She suggested the woman could help with small tasks at the stall, like washing dishes, while a more permanent solution was being found.
Otieno later shared the story on social media, and many Kenyans reacted with love and support. Some people offered to give the woman a job or a place to live.
Others sent messages offering to help with money.
Otieno said she did not accept any money herself, but instead took the mother and child to Njeri wa Migwi, a woman known for helping others in need.
“She does not need to hustle right now. She needs time to rest, eat, and feel safe,” Otieno
Otieno’s act of kindness has touched many hearts, especially at a time when depression and poverty are affecting many people in the country.
In a separate incident, another baby was recently found abandoned at a health center in Embakasi, sparking more concern about the struggles parents are facing.
