Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has said her life is in danger after the government removed her only bodyguard.
She made these claims on Monday, April 7, after visiting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices.
Speaking to the media after her visit to the DCI, Wamuchomba said she had been receiving threats and strange summons from unknown people.
She claimed that there are hired mercenaries sent to harm her. According to her, these mercenaries are working with politicians who want to silence her.
“There are people sent to kill, abduct, and scare me. My life is in danger. If anything happens to me, we know who is behind it,” she said.
Wamuchomba is a strong critic of President William Ruto’s government. She believes she is being targeted for speaking out.
She explained that she was summoned through a phone call, but when she asked the Kiambu County Police Commander Doris Mugambi, the commander said it was not a police matter.
This made her suspect that the summons were fake and politically motivated.
The MP also accused her political opponents, including her predecessor, of trying to frustrate her. She said unknown people had been visiting her offices to intimidate her staff.
She revealed that her only bodyguard was withdrawn recently without any explanation.
She compared her situation to that of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who also lost his official security recently.
“The government does not respect women. If they did, I would have 10 bodyguards. Instead, they took away the only one I had,” she said.
“When something bad happens to me, they will just say it is politics.”
Wamuchomba is now asking the government to return her security and give her at least four bodyguards.
She also said that the fake summons she received were meant to stop her from visiting Githunguri Stadium. The president was expected to visit the area to inspect development projects.
President Ruto’s tour included checking on the progress of the Mau Mau Roads in Nyanduma, Lari, and the Githunguri County Integrated Industrial Park.
Wamuchomba blamed the president for keeping quiet about attacks targeting leaders who support former Deputy President Gachagua.
She gave an example of a recent church service in Kasarani, where goons disrupted the event.
Gachagua was attending that service. The goons reportedly stormed the church and demanded to be paid for showing up.
Wamuchomba said these kinds of attacks are becoming common, and she believes that the silence from the president is a bad sign.
She ended her statement by saying that if anything happens to her, the public should not be told that it was just political fights.
“My life is in danger, and I need protection now,” she said.
