A well-known businessman from Siaya County has died together with three members of his family in a terrible road accident.
The accident happened on Sunday evening, April 6, 2025, near Uranga along the Siaya-Nyadorera Road.
The man, identified as Robert Odembo Oluoch, died on the spot with his two children and their househelp.
They were travelling in a saloon car when the accident happened. Reports say that their car rammed into a stalled school bus and overturned.
The accident happened just a few metres from the Legion Maria Church in Siaya County.
People who were nearby said they were shocked by the accident and tried to help as fast as they could.
Robert’s wife and another child survived the crash. They were quickly rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital, where doctors say they are in critical condition. The medical team is closely monitoring their condition.
According to witnesses, the accident happened after a reckless lorry driver caused confusion on the road.
This made Robert lose control of his vehicle and crash into the bus. The stalled bus had not been moved from the road, which added to the danger.
The late Robert Odembo Oluoch was a respected businessman who owned Kodembo Hardware in Port Victoria, Budalangi.
He was known for supporting the local community through business and employment. He also had other small businesses in the area.
Leaders and residents have expressed sadness and sent condolences to the family. Budalangi Member of Parliament Raphael Bita Wanjala said he was shocked by the news.

Road accidents in Kenya have been increasing in recent weeks. Because of this, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Davis Chirchir, has announced that breathalyzers will return to the roads starting this week. He said this is to stop drivers from using alcohol or drugs while driving.
CS Chirchir added that any driver found driving under the influence of alcohol will be fined up to Ksh100,000 or jailed for up to two years or both. He urged all drivers to be careful and follow traffic rules to avoid more deaths on the road.
Police officers are continuing investigations into the Uranga accident. They are also warning drivers to slow down when they see stalled vehicles and always stay alert.
